Stern Warning by Nazri

The incompetent and apple polishing minister, who thinks himself as the saviour of Malaysian legal system and Malay rights, did give little respect to a statesmen who was involved in politics and social service, longer than he had lived in this planet.

Its a shame Dato Seri Samy Velu keeping quite on this matter and being mild on Devamany's issue. Dato Seri should slap this ''apple polishing'' minister or at least ensure he is suspended from parliament just like what happen to Dato Sothinathan.

KUALA LUMPUR:

Stay out of the controversy involving the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) – that’s the stern message for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, who rebuked Karunanidhi for interfering, said what happened here had “nothing to do with Tamil Nadu.”

”Do not meddle in our affairs. This is Malaysia, not Tamil Nadu ... lay off,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday, when asked about wire reports that Karunanidhi had written to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to take immediate and appropriate action to end the “sufferings and bad treatment” of Tamils in Malaysia.

Nazri said he would not apologise for calling those who participated in the Hindraf rally on Sunday “penyangak” (thugs), stressing that the demonstrators had violated the law as no permit was issued.

He explained that it was illogical to assume that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi would not accept their memorandum.

“I cannot accept the action of 20,000 people who want to be involved in a simple action of submitting a memorandum. They can send one person or even 10. The question is – are they really sincere in highlighting their grievances, or are they trying to create chaos?

“It’s a mistake to make an apology to them. It’s not the Indian community that’s involved. Don’t be samseng (gangster),” he said, adding that the issue was discussed at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.

Nazri said police would probe a petition to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, which stated that a genocide would occur here with the Indian community being forced into violence like in Sri Lanka if their “cause” was ignored.

“The Attorney-General’s Chambers will study who sent the petition and charge the writer for sedition. The Hindraf memorandum is also a matter of concern because its contents are seditious,” he added.

“I’m sure these matters will also create animosity between the Indians, the Malays and the Government. We will take action. These people must be responsible for their actions.”
Nazri also reiterated Abdullah’s warning that the Internal Security Act would be used if the situation warranted it.

“Don’t challenge the Government. They can try and hold a rally again and see what will happen,” he added. "The authorities were accused of excessive action. Look at France, whose police used tear gas and even rubber bullets when a demonstration occurred there.”
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed support for most of the demands made by Hindraf.

He told reporters yesterday that he turned up at the Klang Sessions Court on Saturday to give moral support to lawyers P. Uthayakumar, Waythamoorthy and V.S. Ganapathi Rao.
Anwar said he had advised Hindraf not to use Article 153 of the Federal Constitution to pursue their demands as it involved the rights and privileges of the Malays and other indigenous local folk.

In a separate press conference, Opposition leader Lim Kit Siang urged Nazri to apologise unconditionally for labelling the demonstrators “penyangak.”

2. APPEAL FOR U.K TO MOVE EMERGENCY U.N RESOLUTION CONDEMNING “ETHNIC CLEANSING” IN MALAYSIA.

We refer to the above critical matters in Malaysia but which generally gets the least attention locally even by the Opposition parties, NGO’s, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission and the media for this community is generally regarded as politically insignificant, do not draw local or international funding and are deemed not pressworthy. To the contrary the Malaysian government has successfully projected itself to the world as a modern Islamic thinking country which is not true.

The ethnic minority Indians in Malaysia were brought in to Malaysia by the British some 200 over years ago. Since independence in 1957 the Malaysian Indians have been permanently colonialised by the Islamic fundamentalist and Malay chauvinists UMNO led Malaysian government.

Among the recent atrocities committed by this government are as follows:-

1.100 over Indians were slashed and killed by the UMNO controlled Malaysian government in the Kampung Medan mini genocide. Despite numerous appeals, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission has refused to hold a Public Inquiry. The UMNO controlled Malaysian courts struck off a victim’s public interest civil suit for a Public Inquiry to be held without even the said UMNO controlled government having to file in their defence. The UMNO controlled Attorney General and the Inspector General of Police refused to investigate and / or initiate an inquest into the death of at least six Indians in this tragedy despite.

2. Every week one person at average is killed in a shot to kill policy and in every 2 weeks one person is killed in police custody. About 60% of these victims are Indians though they form only 8% of the Malaysian population.

3. In every three weeks one Hindu temple is demolished in Malaysia.

The latest being the demolishment of the Mariaman temple in Padang Jawa, Shah Alam, Selangor early this morning (15.11.2007) and the next being the (Mutaiya) Hindu temple in Sungai Petani scheduled for the 29.11.2007.

A violent armed pre down attack at 4.00a.m this morning was launched by the UMNO controlled Malaysian government backed by about 600 police, riot police, Islamic extremist and armed terrorists which completely destroyed this temple.

In an attack two weeks ago, uniformed police, riot police and city Council officers hurled rocks and attacked unarmed Hindu devotees with knives, sticks and iron rods.

At least 20 Hindu devotees were seriously injured and 19 arrested including 4 of their United Kingdom trained lawyers in direct violation of Article 5 (Right to life) Article 8 (Equality) Article 11 (Freedom of Religion) Section 295 (defiling a place of worship), Section 296 (disturbing a religious assembly), 298A(causing racial disharmony) and Section 441(criminal trespass) of the Malaysian Penal Code.

These authorities are plagued by an above the law mindset and in fact liberally take the law into their own hands. These atrocities however does not happen to almost all Islamic places of worship. Please visit www.policewatchmalaysia.com for further and better particulars.

4. State sponsored direct discrimination against the Indians in Public University intakes, Indian (Tamil) Schools, skills training institutes, civil service and private sector job opportunities, business and license opportunities and in almost all other aspects of daily life.

Despite our hundreds of letters, appeals and pleas to the Malaysian King and Sultans, the Prime Minister, Attorney General, Inspector General of Police, Ministers, Chief Ministers and the latest being our letters to the Prime Minister dated 29.10.2007 and 30.10.2007 and to the Attorney General dated 1.11.2007 the Malaysian authorities are only proceeding with greater ferocity and with impunity with very little regard for the Federal Constitution and laws of Malaysia. So please help us.

CONCLUSION

We fear that this peace loving Indian community of Tamil origin having been pushed to the corner and the persecution getting worse by the day may be forced to into terrorism in a matter of time as what has happened to the Sri Lankan Tamils.

APPEAL

On our part we are committed to a peaceful and lawful struggle and pray and appeal that the Government of the United Kingdom:-

1. Moves an emergency United Nations resolution condemning these state sponsored atrocities and persecutions of Malaysian Indians in Malaysia.

2. Refers Malaysia to the World Court and the International Criminal Court for Crimes against it’s own ethnic minority Indians

Britain Sued Over Malaysian Indians' Woes

An ethnic Indian in Malaysia is using an audacious strategy to highlight the plight of his mostly impoverished community by suing Britain, the country's former colonial ruler, for $4 trillion.

The Malaysian government dismisses the case as baseless, but lawyer Waytha Moorthy is determined to pursue it, even vowing to appeal to Britain's Queen Elizabeth to appoint lawyers for the Indian community, which he says is too poor to find its own.

Moorthy wants Britain to pay damages of 1 million sterling [$2.06 million] to each of Malaysia's two million ethnic Indians for rights abuses he traces to colonial-era labour schemes that brought their ancestors to Malaysia as indentured workers.

Compensation
"We are seeking compensation because we were permanently colonised during British rule, and now, under the government of the ethnic Malays," Moorthy said.

"We have lost touch with our roots and have been suppressed so far," said Moorthy, who accuses British officials of failing to honour their responsibility to protect ethnic Indians when they granted independence to Malaysia in 1957.

In colonial times, many impoverished Indians and Chinese flocked to work and settle in Malaysia, drawn by government schemes meant to attract cheap labour for the country's then lucrative rubber estates and tin mines, he added. But the episode highlights a very real dilemma: after 50 years of independence, ethnic Indians, most of whom are Hindu, own just 1.5 per cent of the country's national wealth. (Gulf News)

Pahang Sultan Retains FAM Presidency, Khairy Among Five New Faces In Council

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang was returned as president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) at the council's elections today which saw Umno Youth Deputy Chief Khairy Jamaluddin among the five new faces voted in for the 2007-2010 term.

Khairy, who initiated the MyTeam reality TV show which developed into a serious endeavour, was elected unopposed as one of the two deputy presidents. He takes over the slot vacated in July by the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The other post of deputy president was retained by incumbent Datuk Redzuan Sheikh Ahmad who was returned unopposed.

The other four new faces are the vice-presidents -- Datuk Che Mat Jusoh (president of the Terengganu Football Association), Affandi Hamzah (vice-president of the Kelantan Football Association), Ahmad Mohamad (deputy president of the Johor Football Association) and Datuk Gulzar Mohamad (council member of the Sarawak Football Association).

Incumbent Datuk Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar of Perak lost in the elections for the posts of vice-president. He garnered only 24 votes. Che Mat drew 45 votes, Affandi 30, Ahmad 28 and Gulzar 26.

Another incumbent vice-president Datuk Anifah Aman gave up the post in keeping with a recent directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi prohibiting ministers, deputy ministers and parliamentary secretaries from holding positions in sports associations. Anifah is the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities.

Meanwhile, Che Mat is tipped to take over as chairman of the FAM Local Competitions Committee, a post hitherto held by Raja Ahmad Zainuddin.

Sultan Ahmad Shah expressed confidence that the new line-up of office-bearers would help inspire excellence in the standard of football in the country.

"I thank the congress for their trust in me and retaining me as the president. The new executive committee will attempt to lift the standard of football to a new level.
"I also extend my congratulations to those who have been elected. I hope they will work hard to raise the standard of football in the country," said the sultan, who has been returned as president since 1984.

The FAM president appoints the association's general secretary.
Replying to a question, Sultan Ahmad Shah said the next FAM Council meeting would discuss the appointment of a candidate to that post.

Khairy, 32, the youngest FAM deputy president to date, said the new executive committee would require some time to rectify weaknesses before it sets out to improve the image of the sport."Local football fans must not anticipate an overnight change. We need some time to set things right.

"Furthermore, the most obvious weakness is communication at the grassroots, between the state associations and the FAM," he told reporters at the Menara Kuala Lumpur where the FAM's 44th annual congress was held.

Tourism Varsity For Balik Pulau

PENANG, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- A Tourism University is being planned at Balik Pulau to provide skilled workforce to meet the growth of the country's tourism industry as well as boost development of the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).

Finance Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had approved the project and an announcement on the matter would be made soon.

"The university will be built to train the workforce needed in the tourism industry in our efforts to provide the quality service to tourists.

"It will offer courses related to the travel industry like hotel and catering, service, transportation, etc, " he told reporters after the opening of the Balik Pulau Umno divisional delegates meeting here today.

He said infrastructure at Balik Pulau would be developed and upgraded and they included the construction of road network to link the second Penang bridge to Balik Pulau.

"The RM200 million road network will link Batu Maung to Bayan Lepas, Bayan Lepas to Teluk Kumbar and Balik Pulau, as well as Teluk Bahang to Balik Pulau," he added.

Who will be the first batch of this university. Penang with its rich heritage, have not be able to shine under CM Koh. Probably CM Koh, Tengku Adnan, and that Tourism Madam from Penang should attend this university first.

Government's Ignorance

An Open Letter to Dato Lee Hwa Beng:


RE: No LRT Stops at 3 busy spots.....

Dear Dato,

As today's news carried the message from Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (SPNB) that the proposed 3 important LRT spots have been ignored by them. Its is also from the news that they have yet to present the new routes, to the cabinet and I would like to suggest that we should take this opportunity to start a ''signature campaign'', to inform SPNB as well as the Finance Ministry, which is headed by the Prime Minister himself.

Out of the 3 stops, USJ 1 station is very crucial, as there are 10 blocks of apartment and if I may be right there is an alternative road due to be opened to Puchong. The residents Committe (JKP) Zone 5 Chairman, En. Kamarudin Rasol himself echoed the residents sentiment that they are dissapointed by the SPNB's decision.

They were also looking forward to use the LRT to work, thus leaving their car at home and not contributing towards the notorious peak hour traffic jam at summit area and polluting the environment. A noble intention which have to be cut short if the proposal does not go through.

It would be unacceptable if SPNB pronounce that cost is the utmost reason for them to have shelved that particular station., with an estimated residents of more than 50,000 ( taking into account the residents from USJ 8,14,9 and Taipan) expected to use this station, one will be in for a shocker, if the USJ 1 station is not built as proposed. To SPNB, you can recover the cost with ease, after all the fares are not going to be cheap.

Planning have not been the virtue of Malaysia government, this can be justified by the announcement of another LCCT Terminal, why didn't they forsee this situation, similarly, the LRT trains pass the area but NO STATION. How can one decribe this.!!!

Enough said.

I would like Dato Lee, to come up with some magical ideas which will greatly influence the minds of Finance Ministry as well as SPNB.If you need manpower to go around and collect signatures, I am more than willing to spare my time.

Ten Things We Could All Change Today

1) Switch your electricity supply to a renewable energy provider like Good Energy (http://www.good-energy.co.uk/) or Ecotricity (http://www.ecotricity.co.uk/). They will generate electricity using wind turbines, solar panel, water turbines and gas from food or animal waste.

2) Change your light bulbs to energy-saving ones. Switch off unused electrical appliances. NB An estimated 8% of the UK’s carbon emissions are caused by appliances left on stand-by.

3) Install draught exclusion measures around doors and windows, lag your boiler, and consider getting cavity wall and loft insulation.

4) Use a compost bin for your garden and kitchen waste. If you have a balcony, then consider buying a wormery (http://www.wigglywigglers.co.uk/). A wormery can take dairy products and cooked food; a compost heap can’t. NB Food represents about 30% of household waste and half of that is perfectly edible when it’s thrown away!

5) Stop buying milk in tetrapacks, purepaks & plastic bottles. Use your local milkman who delivers and recycles glass bottles.

6) Refuse plastic bags in shops and leave excess packaging at the till. Keep spare bags or “bags for life” by the front door to take shopping.

7) Try to carry a travel mug or a plastic water bottle with you rather than using disposable cups or buying water bottles. Take plastic water bottles home when you do buy them and re-use them.

8) Don’t run the tap when brushing your teeth. Stop the shower when you’re soaping up. Put a hippo or a brick in your toilet cistern to reduce water use. Install a grey water diverter to channel waste water from your bathroom to your garden.

9) Try to buy local, seasonal and, if possible, organic food. Don’t buy air-freighted fresh food. Best of all sign up for an organic box scheme like Abel & Cole (http://www.abel-cole.co.uk/) or Riverford Farm (http://www.riverford.co.uk/). Eat less meat because producing it is such an energy-intensive business. NB Seeds and nuts will give you all the protein you need.

10) Buy a bicycle. Sell your car and join a car club (www.mystreetcar.co.uk, www.whizzgo.co.uk, www.citycarclub.co.uk). Pay an environmental charity like Pure (http://www.puretrust.org.uk/) or Climate Care (http://www.climatecare.org/) to offset the carbon for any flights you take. They will invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
